Molly and I spent a few days in a beautiful little house in the interior of São Paulo state. And as usual, we brought materials that we like to use to relax and create!

Books and Materials

I took my bookbinding toolbox and a box with many recyclable papers. I wanted to learn how to make other types of books!

The book How to Make Book - fold, Cut & Stitch your way to a One-of-a-Kind Book, by Esther K. Smith (illustrations by Lindsay Stadig and photographs by Zimmerman (2007) also came along!

Pamphlets

Esther K. Smith (2207) talks about the practicality and the variety of possibilities of making pamphlet books. These books may vary in size, format and number of holes.

During those days I made several pamphlet books. I was looking for a balance between size, number of sheets and quantity of holes.

In this process I tested different numbers of holes, lines, quantity of sheets. I also explored different cutting methods with the cutting knife. It was a delightful process. To keep track of process and to keep improving the design, I numbered each of these books and wrote the positive points and what should be changed in the next one.

Each project teaches you a little bit more about bookbinding and repetition is key. I've learned how to make better holes by holding the pages at 45 degree angle.

Breeze was born from this experimentation!

Breeze

The name says it all! Breeze fits perfectly inside your pocket, fanny pack, purse, wherever you want! It can go with you anywhere. It's that kind of book that can be part of your day to day. It can be used at any time to write down a thought, record an idea, write a sentence that you heard and that touched your heart, to create your to-do list, or write down and draw something that was memorable about your day. The possibilities are endless and the important thing is that this book can be a companion. The covers are made from 200g black acid free paper or 200g craft paper. However, there is always the possibility of making colorful versions! One day a dear friend asked for a green one! And I loved preparing this order.
